Tips to Stop Your Dog From Barking
You and your neighbors do not want to hear your dog barking when your dog should not be barking. Sure, if your dog is excited, or it is late at night and there is someone near your house, then barking is acceptable. But having to hear your dog constantly barking for hours on end can be very annoying to anyone within earshot. If you have chosen the responsibility of owning a dog, then you need to teach your dog that you are the boss and that he needs to obey you.
Incessant barking is one of the more frequent complaints among dog owners, and you should be aware that there are many effective ways to stop your dog from barking.
Act Like You Are Leaving The House
Many dogs will bark continually whenever you leave the house, and here is one way to stop it. If your dog barks when you leave the house, then you will want to practice this exercise often. First, say goodbye to your dog, but do not make it into a huge emotional event. If you make a big deal out of your leaving, then your dog will be excited and will want to start barking. So just give your dog a quick kiss and wave goodbye as you walk out and close the door. Now stand outside the door and listen. If your dog starts to bark, give her about a minute to stop. If she doesn’t, then open the door and tell her “no!” very sternly. Then pretend to leave again and repeat the process. It’s not a bad idea to practice this technique a few times a day.
Leave Out Some Play Toys While You Are Gone
Another tip is to give your dog something to keep him busy while you’re gone. It can be a bone or a toy –just something that will keep his attention so he does not get bored and start barking.
These are just two of the many ways to stop your dog from barking. Try them and see if they work on your dog. Of course, some dogs will learn quickly and stop barking after you train them a few times. Others may require a longer training time or even a different method to get them to stop barking. Make sure you are both patient and very stern with your dog so she knows you mean business. Your dog must know that you are in charge.
